Do banner ads still work?

There are three types of banner ads I can think of right now (possibly more).
1) one that interrupts you every time you land on a page or accidentally scroll your mouse over - I know a great deal of ad people who detest these.
2) one that is mildly interesting - special buys, clever placement and so on. These I think I’d allow as it has a bit of creative thinking in it.
3) truly creative ones that actually draw people to interact and engage with it. These may not be the most visually beautiful ads, but it does have the right hook.
All in all, I still have mixd feelings about banner ads, but we should all continue to find better ways of making them rather than condemning the medium.
